The attempted assassination occurred during the Dogfight Debate hosted at the Vanilla Unicorn.

Paramedics rushed to the scene of the shooting, as onlookers watched in horror.
A shocking scene unfolded at the scheduled 'Dogfight Debate' at the Vanilla Unicorn today between Mayoral Candidates James Brown and Karen O'Fhell, as an as-yet-unidentified gunman fired upon Candidate Brown from the onlooking crowd in an attempted assassination mid-debate.
EMS were thankfully on-scene to treat Mr. Brown's injuries, which were thankfully mitigated by a vest worn under his suit, however while law enforcement officers WERE present, nobody was able to identify the shooter. Showing extreme dedication, Mr. Brown proceeded to continue the debate and answer the questions of the public, before heading to Zonah Medical Center for treatment.
"My initial response was that I was right. In the back of my head, I could feel like something was coming. Whether it was good or not I would have to find out. Luckily I was wearing a vest when it happened and made it out with only a cracked rib."
Said Mr Brown, in an exclusive sit-down interview with the Daily Scoop when asked about his initial response to the shooting, following with a loud statement in regards to the response of medical and law enforcement officers on-scene.
"I think the police and EMS responded great - at first. EMS were very helpful and they took my vest off so I could breathe. The only issue I had was that the police tried to charge Pess, the event creator, with FELONY OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE just for not listening to an officer. That charge should have been disobeying a peace officer. It was crazy to me how they tried to throw a felony on that man's record. These police need to be held accountable for things like this. That charge was completely unacceptable. That my friends, is an example of an abuse of power by a peace officer."
Mr Brown continued, before finishing off with a statement to the would-be assassin - as well as to the public as a whole.
"I want the public to know that I am here and I am not going away. You can try and silence me, but I will still rise to the challenges that the city faces. I hope that people elect me as their mayor because I want to see this city shine. There is so much potential in Los Santos for all walks of life and I know I can make a difference on a larger scale. I appreciate anyone that supports me and just know you always have a friend in me. #VOTEBROWN for a better town - We HAVE made a difference, and we will keep doing so. And, to the assassin? You can try and try and try and try and try and try again and again and again and again and again, but you will NEVER silence someone like me."
When asked to comment on the attempted assassination as a representative of the Los Santos Police Department, Sr. Officer Sullivan Stone had this to say;
To the Assassin: "How could you? Why are you even here? Seven years ago this city was the victim of nuclear fallout. We’re all here to rebuild, and this is what you do? You’re disgusting. Why don’t you just leave.”
However when asked if police presence would be increased at future debates in response to this attempted assassination, his response was less than concrete.
“Will there be any attempt to provide security at future mayoral debates? No. Well, we’ll think about it. The way I see it, a mayoral candidate is important, but who’s to say they’re more important than anyone else?” - Sr. Officer Sullivan Stone
We here at The Daily Scoop wish mayoral candidate James Brown a speedy recovery.
